Church on a Bus
Church on a Bus is aimed at those who find our Sunday meeting difficult to access and may be are homeless, vulnerable and marginalised in society. The double decker bus, in which we meet, is parked outside our church building on Sunday evenings.
As a team we meet from about 7.45pm to set up and then to pray. We then meet on the bus from 8pm. On the bus we provide hot drinks, clothing, food and friendship. We aim to be an outward looking, welcoming, Christian community where the men and women that come along can feel safe, valued and listened to.
Our aim is to combine social action with proclamation, that is caring for people’s physical needs where are able to, at the same time as pointing people to their spiritual need. We cannot do one without the other. We always aim to study the Bible, with time to pray with, and for, those who have joined us over the course of the evening.
Our primary concern is to introduce people to the Lord God as he's revealed in the Bible through his son the Lord Jesus. We aim to tell people who Jesus is, why he came, and what he has done for you and me. Our hope and prayer is that people would come to understand and trust the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, finding forgiveness of sin at the cross of Jesus Christ; growing in a right, healthy and living relationship with their Creator, and that they would become members of Christ's Church and have their lives recreated through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
Isaiah 58:6-7
